Equine Art Show and Gallery SaleOnce again our Fall Classic Breeders' Sale will host the added attraction of an Equine Art Show and Gallery Sale. Equine artists were invited to submit work for consideration for use as the poster and catalog cover artwork. The Committee received many wonderful submissions, making the choice very difficult. All of the artwork submitted will be displayed for your enjoyment and offered for sale at the Fall Classic venue.
We will adhere to the tradition of selling the original artwork used for the poster and sale catalog cover as Lot 0 of the auction on Sunday. Many additional and equally marvelous pieces of art have been submitted by our participating artists and will be on display and priced to sell. All artwork is framed and ready to hang. To purchase one of the pieces, simply visit the sale office. A portion of the proceeds from all of the art sales is contributed to the support of the CWHBA Alberta Chapter. We encourage you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to purchase work from some of Canada's premier equine artists and support our organization.
The contributing artists make this show possible and we extend to them our thanks. We hope you agree that the Art Show and Gallery Sale creates another dimension to the prestige and elegance created at the Fall Classic Breeders' Sale.
The Artists
Janet Griffin-Scott Cover Artist Port Hope, Ontario
(905) 786-2963
Janet Griffin-Scott was raised in Midland, Ontario where she owned and showed Thoroughbreds and Arabians, had a horse in the backyard, worked on a stud farm after school, and used to get in trouble with her teachers at school for drawing horses all over her notebooks! She attended York University's four-year Graphic Design/Illustration/Photography program and started her own freelance art business after graduation. After ten years as a commercial artist, Janet started an equine and wildlife art gallery and framing business in her home/studio. She published "Equine Art News" for five years, all the while organizing several equine art auctions and shows at Toronto's Quarterama and the Royal Winter Fair. She has also shown her artwork at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibit, Equitana in Louisville, KY, in Long Island, at the Wye Marsh Wildlife Festival, the Cobourg Waterfront Festival, Art in the Park Uxbridge and Oshawa, and at the Great North East Wildlife Festival in Niagara Falls, New York. Janet's work has also appeared in numerous magazines, newspapers, and on Greeting Cards. Her commissioned portraits have been very successful, with over 200 completed portraits to date. The number of stores that carry her art, cards, and giftware is counted at 650 in Canada, US, the UK, Switzerland, Germany and Denmark. Janet works with meticulous detail in acrylic, oil, pencil, pencil crayon, charcoal and pen-and-ink, but her favorite media by far is watercolour.
In 2000, Janet realized a lifetime dream of living on a farm and caring for her own horses. She and her husband James have two children and, on their ten acres they have Cinnamon, her two month old colt Billy, Jake, a two year old Quarter horse and Risky, Janet's 20 year old retired competitive trail racing and hunter horse.

Kelpie Studio is located in a small village near Ottawa, Ontario. Visit Heather online at www.kelpiestudio.com
Margitta Ben-Oliel Brentwood Bay, BC
(250) 652-6956
Margitta is a Swedish born painter, printmaker, photographer and writer. Widely traveled, her impressionistic work is a unique, spontaneous and multifaceted view of the many countries she has visited. Bold, gestural pieces of humans and animals are her trademark. Margitta holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Victoria and works in all mediums. Her work hangs in private collections across Canada, the USA., Scandinavia and Europe. A long-time Island resident, Margitta lives with her husband, three dogs, and a horse. She spends her days working in her studio, giving art lessons, riding her horse, and playing with her dogs.
Jennifer Lee Dayton Mayerthorpe, Alberta
(780) 786-4337
Jennifer Dayton has been drawing since she could hold a pencil. She feels art has been her outlet for her strongest and best communication with others. Jennifer studied art through high school, with an award-winning instructor, Ron Wiggleworth, and recently took a pastel course with him, now at the University of Alberta. Jennifer is, by education, an elementary school teacher. However, she has dedicated the last few years of her life entirely to horses. She has ridden at Touchstone Farm for the past seven years, and she has spent a total of eight months of the last two years riding in Germany with a contact she met through the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association and Touchstone. Jennifer sees art taking a greater priority in her life in the coming year, and dreams of writing and illustrating her own children's book one day.
Liz Fletcher Brentwood Bay, BC
(250) 652-6956
When things slow down on the Fletcher Farm in the winter months, Liz sits down and recreates some of the photos taken of her horses and other subjects in pastel. On occasion, requests for equine portraits have been created for other horse owners. Always being so close to her animals, she has found it an advantage to get the character of the individual into her artwork. Liz is also the owner and operator of Flying F Sport Horses and is a regular with her horse, "The FONZ" at the dressage shows. Liz has also been successful participant with horses in the CWHBA Fall Classic Breeders' Sale in previous years.

Charlotte Serediak Edson, Alberta
(780) 723-7581
Charlotte has been painting since 1996 and doing photography since 1997, and has recently started stained glass. Charlotte gets much of her inspiration from the horse shows she competes in, the stables that she visits, and in her own back yard. Charlotte's painting and photography has been more of a part time job, but as art shows come about throughout the year and more commissions are being done, it is keeping her fairly busy. In her spare time, Charlotte enjoys hiking in the mountains with her fiancé and rottweiler, as well as spending time with her horses.
