Sire: |
CALANDO II is one of 5 highly respected full-brothers (CALANDO I, II, III, IV, and V), all ofwhich were talented show jumpers and approved stallions. They have been used in Germany (primarily in Holstein), Switzerland (CALANDO II) and by the KWPN (CALANDO III).CALANDO II has sired internationally ranked jumpers, as has CALANDO I. Of interest is the fact that they seem to cross best with mares laden with Thoroughbred blood. |
|
Dam: |
MAIKA is by the Thoroughbred, HILDENLEY, who was a strong influence in Irish Sporthorse breeding. He has sired several internationally ranked eventers, and has proven himself a very good sire with the likes of THE GANGSTER II competing at the 2000 Olympics. MAIKAs dam descends from another Thoroughbred sport influence, AUREOLE (ATHENIUS sire), and thus, she carries several bloodlines that have been successful when crossed with those of the CALANDO brothers. |

Notes: |
CARINA is as athletic as her pedigree would indicate. She has proven herself as a producer of top quality foals and more recently as a champion hunter in her one season in the show ring. Her two foals are excellent, having inherited her correct jumping technique and good movement, and are now competing for top Alberta hunter/jumper barns. CARINA has a solid foundation of correct flat workas well as limited dressage training. She is a forward, expressive, big-moving horse with lots of presence. She does lead changes and lateral work, both collected and extended, as well as counter canter. She is brave, honest, careful, and scopey enough to excel in the jumping ring. Ridden exclusively by her adult amateur owner prior to and during her show season, CARINA was consistent and reliable in the ring with wins both under saddle and over fences. She started at the baby green level and quickly moved up to the 3' divisions. This is a rare opportunity to acquire the desirable COR DE LA BRYERE bloodlines and a horse that can successfully compete at a high level in any discipline. |
